MARVEL at the DCASE 2023 Workshop

MARVEL was one of the sponsors of the Workshop on Detection and Classification of Acoustic Scenes and Events (DCASE) 2023, held between 20 and 22 September 2023 in Tampere, Finland.

MARVEL partner TAU continued leading the organisation of Task 1, “Low-Complexity Acoustic Scene Classification”, of the DCASE 2023 challenge between 15 March and 1 July 2023.

The goal of the task was to classify a test recording into one of the predefined ten acoustic scene classes. This involved performing acoustic scene classification on devices with limited computational and memory resources, which constrained the model’s complexity, including the number of parameters and the count of multiply-accumulate operations. The task also focuses on the generalisation across several devices, including audio data recorded and simulated using a diverse range of devices.

The workshop is organised with the DCASE challenge. It aims to provide a venue for researchers working on computational analysis of sound events and scene analysis to present and discuss their results.

Approximately 100 people from universities and companies attended the workshop; MARVEL Data Corpus Flyers were given to participants showing interest in the MARVEL project.
