MARVEL at the Vision Zero for the Balkans Road Safety Conference
On the 15th and 16th of MAY 2023, the MARVEL project took a prominent role at the Vision Zero for the Balkans Road Safety Conference, one of the leading international forums dedicated to road safety. This event was of paramount importance, particularly for Serbia, with attendance and active participation from a multitude of public authorities, Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), and traffic management organizations.
Representatives from the MARVEL partners – ZELUS, ITML, INTRA, UNS, and GRN – participated in the conference, actively engaging with attendees at a dedicated booth. This booth showcased the pioneering work of MARVEL, providing insight into the project’s innovative approach to extreme-scale analytics in the context of smart city environments. This was done through various dissemination materials and demonstration videos, which perfectly illustrated the project’s objectives, its ground-breaking technology, and potential applications.
In line with the theme of the conference, MARVEL’s potential contributions to road safety were given a prominent platform. As an event dedicated to the goal of zero fatalities or serious injuries on the road, the Vision Zero conference offered the ideal platform to present MARVEL’s latest advancements.
A significant highlight of MARVEL’s participation was during the IRF Master Class 1, titled “Making AI Work for Road Safety”. During this session, UNS provided a thorough presentation of MARVEL’s scope and achievements. The audience got a comprehensive view of how the project utilizes its developed technologies to analyze and process vast amounts of multimodal data for real-time traffic management, public safety, environmental monitoring, and resource optimization in urban environments.
The Vision Zero conference provided a significant opportunity for the MARVEL project to reach out to the wider community involved in road safety, particularly in the Balkans region. The feedback and connections made during the conference will no doubt provide further momentum to MARVEL’s mission of transforming urban environments with extreme-scale, AI-driven analytics. Looking ahead, MARVEL continues to lead in the development and application of extreme-scale analytics and AI for smart cities, driven by the mission to make urban environments safer, more efficient, and more sustainable.
