Multimodal perception and intelligence in Municipality of Trento

Italy Trento

The Municipality of Trento (MT) needs to understand what is happening in various areas of the city like parks, squares, underpasses and crossroads. Currently, MT owns hundreds of cameras that have been installed to monitor the city, microphones, traffic sensors etc. However, it is the amount of data, especially its velocity and variety, and their heterogeneity that the municipality staff cannot handle. Today, MT data are only used posteriori, as a trial evidence after something has happened.

The goal of the experiment is to perform:

  • Batch analysis in order to study the trend of the phenomena over time and forecast possible problems in connection with external information (e.g.: weather in case of traffic, events like Christmas markets in case of criminal threats).
  • Real-time analysis in order to send an ALERT in case of potentially dangerous situations in order to reduce authorities’ response time for preventing and countering criminal events and reduce also the officials spend for the risk assessment of criminal attacks to public spaces and events.
